It is really hard to look at a new release from Nike and not think about it in relationship to adidas. In the latter half of 2017, the German company overtook Jordan to become the #2 U.S. sports footwear brand – shocking those who had thought the brand with the swoosh would forever reign supreme. Now, feeling adidas’ breath hot on their neck, Nike has paired their React Foam with a Flyknit upper for their new Epic React Flyknit.
First used in basketball shoes released in 2017, this foam manages to accomplish the difficult task of absorbing foot strikes while also providing better energy return. When compared to Nike’s LunarEpic Low Flyknit 2, this new shoe is 11% softer, 10% bouncier, and 5% lighter. When you’re putting in serious miles every week during your marathon training, those percentages matter. And speaking of serious miles, these shoes are also more durable than previous runners from Nike. So will Nike continue to outrun adidas? Time will tell. The sneakers will be available through Nike’s SNKRS app on the 5th of February.
